How Affiliates can deal with Myspace Backlash
As an Affiliate marketer promoting programs thru my www.omadsense.com website or any of my other affiliate sites, I understand the need to tap into the large traffic that is generated from social
sites such as Myspace.
Myspace is one social site that touts a membership of 200 million plus members. Now I believe many of these memberships
are duplicates [ affiliates trying to expand their reach ] but no one can ignore Myspace’s large internet reach. The
problem affiliates are facing on myspace is it’s growing desire to “BLOCK” affiliates from promoting anything
that can [ supposedly ] direct traffic away from Myspace’s site.
Personally, I believe Myspace’s tactic’s are an attempt to block affiliates or anyone from taking revenue [
money ] from Myspace hands. For example: take for instance banner ads. If you place any banner ads on your profile you will
find that the image link or even the affiliate link will be automatically removed or blocked. The most obvious ban from Myspace
is the “Revver” player ban. Many were passing over Youtube in order to not only make money with Revver videos,
but many preferred Revvers agreement to allow content creators to retain their copyright and ownership rights - unlike you
tube. If you were to even type the word Revver on Myspace - it would be removed. These and many other bans that Myspace has
put in place has made it difficult for average people who want to make a little extra cash [ and affiliates alike] the opportunity
to cash in on the traffic they themselves generate.
Tip 1: work around Myspace Bans and blocks of affiliate codes
1. Affiliate Banners Not all affiliate banner programs are automatically banned [ url links removed ]. But those banned
Affiliate links that are - are usually the ones from the most profitable and more popular affiliate programs. So the question
is, if my affiliate program banner [html code] is banned by Myspace - “How do I go about going around this ban?”
TIP This one may be easy if you are familiar with some Html code abilities. If not - Step one:
first make sure that your affiliate program manager [rules] do not prohibit you from using the following steps.
Step two: Does your affiliate program allow you to use specialized email text links. It should be an option
in choosing your links. The reason for this is because many affiliate programs insist on tracking banners and may refuse paying
you if they cannot. But with text links especially made for emails it’s hard to track these links because an image [
url code] is used and many email accounts don’t show images and therefore you can not be penalized for this lack in
tracking….
Step three: Image - banners are usually Images [ if you want to use text links skip this step ] So what
you do is choose the affiliate banner you want to use - and then you copy the image on to your computer as a file [ jpg file
]. Then you save this file on a hosting site that allows you to get the code to place on a website.
I personally sometimes use myspace’s own photo album to store my images. You just download the image to a photo album
that is not public and when you view the image [ right click on mouse and click the properties option.] this will give you
the URL address of the image file and copy it. The great thing about using this tip is the ability to add the “ALT”
function to html code - helps with seo and search engine bringing more traffic.
Code needed:
< img scr=“ ** url img address **” alt=“ discription of picture “>
You can also play with size of image to help it fit where you want to post ad on your site. Add width= “?”
height="?” to code.
Step four: If you are not familiar with the Html codes necessary to do this don’t worry - all you
have to do is fill in the code below and paste it on to your Myspace profile site.
Example:
Then all you have to do is copy and past your code on the location you want your banner to be placed at on your profile.
This can be used to link to videos [ video players like Revver ] that are banned on Myspace. You may not be able to have
the video player play on the myspace profile but you can link an image to the site with the video . If per chance your affiliate
program URL is banned on Myspace - you will have to use another step inorder to by pass Myspaces ban. We will discuss this
on my next article. Creating redirects.....
